I was in a meeting yesterday and a guy was telling me about his insight into MYSQL.

His parents were programers and he said he had it in his blood.

I stopped to consider this for a moment - it was the first time I heard someone say that.

In the days before databases, I wonder what his family's vocation was. What did the characteristics of their bloodline do for work prior to SELECT statements? Perhaps they were the king's recordkeepers or something. It'd be interesting to know their genealogy.
